HGFPL October Festival
With the girls not having played a proper match in what seems forever, we were all quite excited to get some games underway. It was a lovely sunny morning, with both the Under 9 and Under 8 age groups playing alongside each other. This time round though we were able to play on the bigger 5-a-side pitches with Samba goals, which the girls did find easier, although still quite cramped compared to what they are used to.
Game 1
GLFC v Harvesters
Nicole Zermani, Claudia Bulow
We started slowly and struggled to keep hold of the ball, however a strike from Nicole and a great solo effort from Claudia got the day started.
Game 2
GLFC v King George
Nicole Zermani, Sarah O'Brien
A very tough game against new league opposition this season. They made us work very hard and the game was back and forth. Goals from Nicole and Sarah in our toughest match of the day.
Game 3
GLFC v Comet Sports
Bliss Murray, Jessica Moore
We started too slowly and kept losing the ball, as we hadn't got into our normally precise passing and moving. Bliss earned her superb strike for all her hard work and a brilliant goal from Jess who had worked tirelessly throughout the festival. The girls were so thrilled for Jess, even if she didn't celebrate or know what to do with herself!
Game 4
GLFC v Watford Ladies
Charlotte Bambridge, Sarah O'Brien, Nicole Zermani (2)
The girls played top class football, passing the ball neatly, creating space and finishing off their chances on goal. Rockets from Sarah, Charlotte and two from Nicole to show a ‘no mess’ attitude.
Game 5
GLFC v Bedwell Rangers
The final game of the day and we had switched off - we lost the ball and didn't support the goalkeeper or defender enough - a good thing to help us continue to learn about finishing the job!
It was lovely to see the girls taking to the field again, with league matches still waiting to get going. Today though we learnt some valuable lessons to take into training. We have some really strong competition this season and in order to continuing getting better we must think about how we keep the ball and pressure each team we play, rather than sometimes expecting results to come easily.
POM Sarah O'Brien - a superb match in goal making some important and mature saves. Worked hard on pitch with brilliant tackles and a rocket strike on goal.
